on the subject owing to the apparent

absence of funds for its development.

(c) They emphasise the necessity for

reconsidering the whole question of

Chinese studies in the light of recent

developments in the Universities of

China proper, and with a view to the

study of the relation between modern

Western thought and ancient Chinese

culture. 11

these resolutions, as prepared for

the Advisory Committee by Mr. Mayhew,

is enclosed for your information.

the second meeting.
